“Without a shadow of a doubt he’s the best player in the world at the moment,” declared the United right back Wes Brown. “He’s taken his game to a different level and I’m sure he’ll get more goals this season. I’m just glad he’s on our side. “Even for his team-mates, it’s exciting to watch him when he gets on the ball because you know there’s a chance something’s going to happen, whether it’s him setting up a goal or scoring one. “The back-line this year is one of the most solid defences I’ve been part of. As a back five we’ve played a lot of games together and when you do that you form an understanding, not just between yourselves, but with the midfield lads as well.

“Individually we’ve done well, and as a group we’ve helped each other and that’s shown in our results.

“I’ve had great times here in terms of winning trophies and playing in big games, but I’ve also had bad times with injuries,” he added.  “I’ve been lucky enough to win a lot of medals and hopefully that will continue this season and beyond.

“The 1998/99 season seems like such a long time ago, too. It was my first main season in the first team and it was amazing to be a part of such an achievement.

“If we could achieve something like that again during my time here, it would just be unbelievable.”

This season Brown has become the most used United player throughout the season, somewhat of a surprise when compared to previous seasons when he has been used somewhat sparingly.

“For me, this season, it’s been amazing to be playing,” the England defender continued.

“I’ve not been injured and I’ve been getting games under my belt and getting used to playing week in, week out. It has been great to play so many matches and I think I’ve done okay.

“It was only really because Gary got injured that I’ve been a regular this season, but playing every game helps you improve and gives you more confidence - I’ve definitely discovered that this season.”

It’s always good when we win games, the supporrters are happy and the atmosphere around the team is good. The place feels very happy after what happened against Arsenal. Everyone knows that they are a great team; its always difficult to beat them. But we played well, produced some nice football and created a lot of chances. It was a fantastic game for the fans to watch.

“YOU SHOWED NERVES OF STEEL WHEN YOU HAD TO RETAKE THE PENALTY; HOW DIFFICULT A MOMENT WAS THAT”

Well, when I scored the first penalty I didnt know why the referee disallowed the goal. My confidence is high at the moment but it was strange to put the ball in the net, only to be told to do it again when your losing 1-0. It was quite a difficult situation but I felt very confident and scored again.

“THE GAME CHANGED IN UNITED’S FAVOUR WHEN ANDERSON AND TEVEZ WERE INTRODUCED…”

In my opinion we won the game because of those changes. Anderson and Carlos came on and it changed the pattern of the game, which was very important for both the players and supporters.

“AND WIGAN’S DRAW WITH CHELSEA MADE THAT PERIOD A GOOD FEW DAYS FOR MANCHESTER UNITED”

Fantastic! When these teams drop points and we win it’s great for us, but we need to continue like this.

Ive listened to this song a few times and I am quite delighted because ‘viva’ is a Portuguese word, and I really like the tune. The fans sing the song when you have done something good, which is nice. Anderson has a great song aswell, its an amusing one. The songs create a great buzz, put smiles on supporters faces and lift the player they are about. United’s fans have many songs but I dont understand all of them!

“HOW IMPORTANT HAVE THE FANS BEEN AS THE SEASON REACHES ITS END”

The supporters have been fantastic and have helped the team a lot; against Arsenal was a good example. The atmosphere was brilliant, and the supporters were screaming a lot of the time. It helps the players and I hope it continues like that. You feel good about that backing and it motivates us both home and away

“YOU APPEAR TO BE ON THE VERGE OF BREAKING MANY FOOTBALL RECORDS. HOW MUCH MORE IS THERE TO COME FROM YOU”

My motivation is to play to my best all season, but football is not about breaking records. Im in good form but my team mates help me a lot in my career, to carry on at this level until the end of the season would be fantastic.

“HOW IMPORTANT IS IT TO HAVE QUALITY PLAYERS ALL AROUND YOU”

Its always important to be playing alongside great footballers. You learn so much from the experienced players and even the young lads can show you things. You learn every day here and I want to pick up all that I can. I think I am at the best club for learning, getting more experience and winning titles.

“THERE HAVE BEEN RUMOURS OF BEING OFFERED A NEW CONTRACT, HAVE YOU SIGNED ANYTHING? HOW LONG ARE YOU GOING TO BE STAYING?”

Well, the papers talk a lot but there is nothing happening in that area and theres plenty of time before that becomes an issue. Im very happy at United and I want to stay.

“WHAT ARE YOUR AMBITIONS IN THE GAME WHILE AT OLD TRAFFORD”

Well, my ambition is still the same as it has been for quite a few years now and that is to see myself improve every season. Winning titles is the most important element of my ambition - all that matters is helping United to succeed.

“IS WINNING THE WORLD PLAYER OF THE YEAR STILL A MAJOR GOAL FOR YOU”

I work towards that, yes. My ambition is to improve at all times. Individual awards are a greart bonus. If I won I would be surprised but at the same time I would be very proud because of the work that I have put in.

“HOW MUCH HAVE SIR ALEX FERGUSON AND CARLOS QUEIROZ HELPED YOU WHILE YOU HAVE BEEN AT UNITED, AND HOW MUCH MORE CAN YOU STILL LEARN FROM THEM”

This is one of the main reasons that I am here at the club. The boss helped me a lot, he is a very warm man. Carlos is a great person as well. He has helped me a lot many times. Carlos says when i am wrong and when I am right and has told me so to my face many times. I like this in people and they are good guys.

“AS THE SEASONS REACHES ITS CONCLUSION, DO YOU HAVE A MESSAGE FOR THE FANS?”

Yes, Im just going to encourage them to carry on like they have been doing by helping us with their great vocal support. Because if the supporters do all they can to help the team, great things will happen. I think the support is fantastic, not just at Old Trafford, but in away games too. It’s a gift to us and makes the players feel confident.
